Florida vs Texas A&M

Welcome to the SEC (Texas A&M)

Week one had a few good matchups and week two may not have as many, but this one should be a good one. Poll question on our facebook page: Florida vs Texas A&M

Florida travels to Texas A&M. Early conference games are always good games to watch.

Florida heads into this game with Driskel as the starting QB. Will Muschamp announced earlier this week that Driskel deserves to start and that he believes, at this point, Driskel is their best option.

“Just feel like Jeff with his legs gives us some different variables in our offense that can helps us as we move forward,” Muschamp said. “So it’ll be Jeff’s game to play. I told Jeff, ‘I don’t want you looking over your shoulder, but you need to play well.’"

Muschamp is right, Driskel needs to play well. But not so that he doesn't lose his starting job.....it's going to be a very tough game to win and the only way the Gators get this done is by way of the QB position.
Playing well will be very difficult on the road, especially with Aggie fans. College Station is going to be very loud. Having a young QB in this kind of game is going to be scary for the Gators.

What about the other side of the ball? The defense that struggled to keep Bowling Green in check? Some may argue that the Gators over looked this game because they were worried about heading to Texas A&M the following week. Let me throw that debate out the window now. If this was mid-season, then yes I could see a team over looking a game. But this was the first game of the season. The game where you are supposed to be jacked up and ready to play because you are ready to hit players that aren't your teammates. This was not a case of  'over looking' an opponent. This was the case of a team that got hit in the mouth early and wasn't sure how to respond. They got the 'W' but this has to be scary for Gator fans to think about when heading into the first SEC game for Texas A&M.

What about the Aggies? They missed out on their season opener. No, it wouldn't have been much of a game, but at least we would have something to measure them by. And I know Will Muschamp would have loved to have some current game film to study. Instead, the Aggies got a pretty good look at the Gators' struggles vs Bowling Green.  The only people not in the dark about how the Aggies will look? The coaching staff and the players. Gator fans aren't the only fans nervous about this game. Aggie fans have to be a little nervous to find what their team will look like too.

This will be a great matchup, no matter which way you look at it. Texas A&M has a lot in their favor. The element of surprise and homefield advantage. Two huge elements in this type of game. The Gators have some things they will have to overcome in order to get the win on the road. Driskel has to play well, and the defense has to keep them in the game. If the Aggies can build an early lead, I think it will be very hard for Florida to play catch-up. Florida has to be the team to come out and throw the first punch if they are going to control this game for four quarters.

I like Texas A&M in this matchup. If Florida had looked more impressive in week 1, I might have gone the other way. But for what we have to look at, and the advantages that A&M has, it's just too hard not to pick the Aggies here. Texas A&M wins 27-21.

Tomorrow  I look at a few more key matchups for the weekend. Miami at Kansas State, Penn State at Virginia, Nebraska at UCLA, Georgia at Missouri, and Duke at Stanford. Upset Alert early in the season for some teams.
