BCS Discussion

BCS Discussion Week 12

Now that the SEC has been put in the back seat, for now, who deserves to play for it all if there are still three undefeated teams left? Notre Dame seems to be the least favored team to make it. Predictions have Kansas State taking on Oregon. Would anybody care about that matchup in the south east? I mean, there are a few of us out there that just like to watch Oregon's offense run circles around everbody they play against, but do we want to see that against Kansas State? Or would we want to see Notre Dame get taken behind the wood shed?

Before we get down to that matchup, look at what could happen if one, or even two, of the teams lost down the stretch. It could create another mess in which the SEC gets a team back in the BCS Title game. If Notre Dame falls to USC, then Bama is on deck again. Same situation if either Kansas State or Oregon lost. Alabama is not in a bad situation at all right now. Granted, it's not as good of a situation as it could have been if they beat A&M, but they aren't in bad shape.

Don't forget to check out our poll question: Who has been the biggest surprise (good or bad) this season?

Another angle could be a situation where Georgia comes up big against Alabama. That would put Georgia on deck. Imagine that scenario. That would be even more proof that the SEC gets way too much credit. Georgia is not a championship caliber team. They were dismantled by South Carolina, and barely beat a Gators team that turned the ball over like crazy.

I am all about a 'train wreck' at the end of the season in the rankings, but I think the best scenario for that is if the three undefeated teams stayed that way. That would leave one undefeated out, but with a chance to prove a point against an SEC team (most likely Notre Dame vs Bama). If you want respect, then take down the best SEC team in a bowl game. Nothing would be better than to see two undefeated teams after the bowls were done (if you are somebody who dislikes what the BCS has become).

How does this play out? There is still plenty of football left. Oregon still has to play Stanford, and the PAC-12 Championship game. Kansas State has to avoid an upset from Texas. Notre Dame has to finish strong against USC. And Alabama? Well, they have to be really carefull down the stretch. Nobody wants to see them over-look Western Carolina in week 12 ( Yes, I went there again) Notice none of the other top 5 teams have that kind of game on their schedule in week 12. Then, of course, Bama has to play Georgia in the SEC Title game. I guess you could call that Western Carolina game a 'trap game'........okay I took it too far. I will try to avoid bringing that game up the rest of the week.

I want you to give me your thoughts on the BCS picture. Who do you think will play? Who do you think deserves the shot? I would love nothing more than to make Wednesday's Reader Question Segment all about the BCS. Send to jeremy.cf2d@yahoo.com or post them to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/collegefootball2day. Anything you want to talk about and we will hit on it. Don't forget to check out our poll question: Who has been the biggest surprise (good or bad) this season?
