Week 3 Recap
First off, my apologies for my Week 3 key games and picks. There were apparently some difficulties with the post being uploaded while I was on vacation. Some of you saw the post and others didn't. Not sure what happened, but either way we are moving on...There were some exciting games in week 3. It's hard to believe that week 3 is gone..... But there is still plenty of football left. My picks held up pretty well, minus Nebraska's HUGE BLUNDER. In case you missed it, The Huskers had a 21-3 lead before the Bruins put the smack-down on the 'children of the corn'. UCLA went on to win 41-21. Nebraska scored 0 (ZERO) points in the second half. MOVING ON..... I am 19-4 in my picks through week 3. Here is a look back at what happened in Week 3 of 2013 College Football.
Alabama survives Texas A&M.
Perhaps the biggest game of the weekend, and maybe the season, Alabama was able to respond after being down 0-14 early in this game. Once the Crimson Tide had made it 35-14 I felt like Saban had finally done it. I felt like he finally put Manziel in the dirt and was going to be able to keep him there, but Johnny Manziel was able to fight back and make this an exciting game. It leaves you wondering what the Aggies would look like if they had a defense. Speaking of defense.... If you are an Alabama fan, are you nervous about how your defense gave up so many points in this game? Sure, Manziel is a special player, but at some point you have to wonder if maybe your defense was exposed....maybe even just a little bit. Time will tell if it was exposed or just a fluke.
Nebraska hosting UCLA.
Well, I kind of explained that earlier. Let's just move on...... Oh and might I suggest a coaching change in Nebraska.
Tennessee at Oregon
Whew! I was worried in the first few minutes of this game. After all the trash talking about how the Vols would be running into each other..... Well, Oregon finally woke up and did what they were supposed to do against an inferior opponent. I do, however, like the fight that Tennessee showed early in this game. It's just a question of how the team responds in the following weeks. I still think the Vols have a shot at an upset against Florida. Mark that on your calendar. I mentioned it last week, and I really like Tennessee's chances against Florida.
Ole Miss at Texas.
This might have been my favorite game of the week. Attention Texas fans..... SIT DOWN. The Longhorns have a difficult road ahead and I'm not sure they have the coach to get them back to where they expect to be each year. How do you recruit 3 or 4 Top 10 classes in the last 5 years and not have the wins to show for it? COACHING. Mac Brown is not the man for the job anymore. Oh and congrats to Ole Miss on a big win on the road.
Nevada at Florida State.
I was fishing out on Lake Erie while this game was going, but I have made it back home and had a chance to watch the game. Did Winston have as good of a game as he did against Pitt? Of course not, and to expect those same numbers would be unreasonable. He started out pretty average and even threw an interception. After that, he threw 13 straight passes without an incomplete pass. He did manage to throw three (3) incompletions on the day. Through two games of the season, Jameis Winston has thrown a total of FIVE (5) incomplete passes and has thrown SIX (6) TD passes. They aren't huge numbers, but to still have more TD passes than incompletions after two games is an impressive stat. I wouldn't expect to see much of Winston in the Noles' next game, maybe the first couple of series at most. Bethune-Cookman, need I say more?
Ohio State at California.
I did get to see a little bit of this game, and it was about how I expected. It was a good week for Braxton Miller to stay on the sidelines. Cal was overmatched, and Ohio State used this game to work on some things and play some younger players. Cal had some bright spots but they just couldn't get out of the hole they dug in the first half. A LOT OF POINTS in this game.
Vandy at South Carolina.
Wow, what a tale of two teams for Vanderbilt. They come out and look like the Vanderbilt team we were used to seeing, then they settled down a bit and tried to catch Carolina off guard. It was a great second half, but sadly it was only a half. It leaves Vandy fans wondering 'what if' after a great comeback. We are all still wondering if or when Vanderbilt will get over that hump. When will they win that close game? When will they get that signature win? Coach Franklin has them knocking, but they aren't there yet. Still a tough road ahead for Vandy.
