Conference Power Rankings Week 4

Conference Ranks Week 4

This topic is going to heat up the further we get into the season, and I am going to pay closer attention to it this season. Which conference has impressed the most through three weeks of the season? Which conference has improved the most since last season? Those are just a couple of questions I will get to in this post.

First, let me go ahead and rank the conferences that matter at this point.

1. SEC
2. PAC-12
3. ACC
4. B1G Ten
5. BIG-12
6. BIG East (or now known as American Athletic Conference)

Okay, I'm ready. Start taking shots at me for where I have a couple of these ranked...... Before you do though, think about the teams that have helped make a statement for their conference this year..... Then think about the big name teams that have brought down their conference.

Most improved conference: I have to give it to the ACC as of right now. The ACC is 2-2 against the SEC. Two wins against SEC heavy-weights, Florida and Georgia. Their two losses to the SEC? A terrible Virginia Tech team (perhaps the worst Tech team we've seen in over a decade) lost to Alabama, and a mediocre, at best, North Carolina team that still gave South Carolina some problems. Now, of course, this could all change by the end of the season. The ACC could screw it all up and lose games they shouldn't down the stretch. As for now, though, the ACC is doing what they need to do to improve their image, and that's winning key matchups.

Strongest Conference thus far: The SEC still has a solid grip on being the best conference. However, top to bottom might be a different story by the end of the season. Alabama and Texas A&M make a strong statement for the conference. LSU has looked solid.....But if the SEC has a weakness, it has to be in the eastern division. Florida lost to an 'okay' ACC team in Miami. The Hurricanes may turn out to be better as the season progresses, but they certainly aren't the best the ACC has to offer at this point. Georgia lost to maybe the best team out of the ACC in Clemson..... Georgia is also the favorite to win the SEC East right now. While none of the SEC's nonconference losses are HUGE, they still leave some interesting question marks across the board.

Biggest disappointment thus far: I have the BIG-12 holding down this area..... Thanks mostly to Texas the last couple weeks. Oklahoma might be the best in that conference, and sadly, they don't look that good right now either. What signature win does this conference have at this point? I'll wait....... If you come up with one, I don't think it will out weigh what Texas has done for this conference in their last two games. BYU ran all over the Longhorns, and Ole Miss came into Texas and destroyed them on their own field.

The Conference toughest to rank: The B1G Ten might be the toughest, in my opinion, to rank at this point. Ohio State has looked pretty solid. Michigan looked like they would be a top 10 contender until they almost had a meltdown against Akron. Yes, I said Akron. Nebraska blew a huge lead against UCLA and lost (in Nebraska). It's really hard to see where this conference really is right now, though. There are a few solid matchups in the coming weeks that might give us some better clues at where they are in the mix.
