Reader Questions and Games Ahead

Reader Questions Segment

Only one question to get to today. And I was wondering where all the Michigan fans went after this past weekend....or if they all were still alive at least.

Tim Shay writes:  OK Jeremy, my wolverines apparently stayed in Ann Arbor on Saturday. I think you will agree with the assessment that the Wolverines 1) made themselves look worse than they actually are by panicking early, and 2) will not face a team NEARLY as good as Alabama the rest of the way. My question is this, how much - if at all - do you think the bama game will help the maize and blue from a developmental standpoint?

You are right Tim, the Wolverines never showed up for that game. They sure didn't help their image at all. Even Michigan State players were tweeting about how bad the Wolverines looked, which is shocking that Michigan State would give them that kind of material to motivate them the rest of the season.

Sure, Michigan won't face a team nearly as good as BAMA the rest of the way but I am still not sold that this was the best team the BIG10 had to offer.

From a development standpoint? It's tough to say. It depends on the players. Does this make them better in the long run? You might think so and you could be right. Be very careful, though. I can point to a game last season where Florida State got themselves worked up for their matchup with Oklahoma. FSU lost a close game in the 4th and FSU was never the same the rest of the season.

The question is, how much did Michigan put on this game? Did they base the season on this one game? And if they did, that was a terrible showing of it. They know what they need to work on. I believe they have the coach to do it. I believe Michigan can learn a lot from this game.  It just falls on the players to respond now. Tackling, and flying to the ball should be the focus going forward. Offense? Well, they won't face another defense like that all season, but they will see teams try to scheme the same way Saban did.

I think Michigan will rebound and win games. However, I don't see them cracking back into the top 10 this season. Michigan was exposed. Michigan couldn't stop the run. I know, it's Alabama. But a true freshman ran free on the Wolverines' defense. But, it wasn't just the defense that got exposed...the offense has some major issues. Execution, consistency, etc. needs to improve on offense. I think the rest of the season rides on the players. Yes, the coaches should do their job and get them to focus on one game at a time the rest of the way, but this game will be in their heads for a long time.

 Key Games Week 2

 Miami (FL) at Kansas State
 Penn State at Virginia
 Florida at Texas A&M
 Nebraska at UCLA
 Georgia at Missouri
 Duke at Stanford

The two most popular games have to be the SEC opener for both Texas A&M and Missouri. Great matchups early in the season and we will get a good look at just where these teams stack up in their new conference.

Week 3 will bring many more exciting games to watch with conference play getting started and teams getting those 'cupcake' games out of the way.

Thanks for reading. Questions can be posted to our Facebook page or sent to jeremy.cf2d@yahoo.com  Thursday and Friday I will give you my picks for the weekend. I am 4-1 and looking to go for a perfect weekend.
