Is this a little low for the LSU Tigers? I think NOT. In fact, I don't feel real comfortable having them that high. The SEC needs LSU to rebound from last season. Sure, they had a 10-win season, but you can't ignore their last game against Clemson. It was pretty rough, and it was to an ACC team. You know, that pathetic ACC.....the conference that the SEC should roll over every year....

 Here's a look at LSU's schedule.

TCU (Neutral Site)
UAB
Kent State
Auburn
At Georgia
At Miss. State
Florida
At Ole Miss
Furman
At BAMA
Texas A&M
Arkansas

It's not a favorable schedule for LSU this year. The Tigers have Georgia, Miss St., and Florida in a three week stretch. To make things interesting, TCU is a wildcard and could come out with an upset to start the season. I mean, let's be honest...... I look at this schedule and I could easily count four losses. Obviously, LSU could vastly improve and turn out to be a solid team in the SEC again this season.......but that's my point.... The Tigers might be the toughest team to predict this early on. LSU struggled on offense in 2012, and the defense had clearly taken a step back from 2011. The question marks are there heading into the season. One good thing for LSU, though....... If LSU can get passed TCU without any injuries or other problems (a loss), then they have a couple games to get settled before they are truly tested. I'm not real comfortable with LSU at 13, but it's all I can give them at this point.

#14 University of Miami

Now let's get one thing straight before I go any further. I'm not saying 'The U' is back, however, they have some great talent that may fly under the radar of many college football fans. They have experience, and that is something that has been missing for a few seasons. Many of their problems may have been caused by the potential sanctions that the Canes may be facing. The University of Miami has already had their hearing with the NCAA, but the punishment could be as many as six to eight weeks away. Considering what Miami has already done with their self-imposed punishments, the NCAA may not be as harsh as some have predicted. Scholarships will be, in my opinion, where they get hit the hardest. I don't think they will have much of a post-season ban....One season, perhaps (Miami has already sat out the last two seasons, and skipped out of the ACC title game).

Here is a look at their schedule:

Florida Atlantic
Florida
Bye
Savannah State
At South Florida
Georgia Tech
Open
At North Carolina
Wake Forest
At Florida State
Virginia Tech
At Duke
Virginia
At Pittsburgh

Key Games: Florida, North Carolina, Florida State, Virginia Tech.

This schedule is very interesting when you take a closer look at it and realize how many games the Canes are actually playing in the state of Florida. Nine of their twelve games are being played in their home state. There is something to be said for not having to leave your state when playing road games...... And the one game I have circled is that second game of the season against the Florida Gators. The FSU vs Miami is a solid rivalry, but not as of late (mainly because FSU has had the upper hand for a few seasons)..... The Florida vs Miami rivalry game doesn't happen enough and that makes this game special. It gives both teams the chance to run the table in the state of Florida and that is a big recruiting boost for the winner.

If Miami wins that game against Florida, it could truly be a special season for the Canes. I'm not saying that the season rides on this one game, but it would be a HUGE boost for the program and it could give them the confidence they need in order to get back to being 'The U'.

Preseason Top 15

Preseason Top 15 Countdown

15. Notre Dame       10.                          5.
14.                             9.                           4.
13.                             8.                           3.
12.                             7.                           2.
11.                             6.                           1.

Notre Dame lands at #15. Seem low for the runner up from 2012? Not in my book. I believe that is right where they belong to start the season. The Irish may be a solid 9 to 10 win team and that may have them end the season right on the threshold of the Top 10. Obviously the main factor will be who the losses are to. Here is a look at their schedule:

Temple
At Michigan
At Purdue
Michigan State
Oklahoma
Arizona State
Bye
USC Trojans
At Air Force
Navy
At Pittsburgh
Bye
BYU
At Stanford

I have 4 games circled and I don't believe this team can go 4-0 in those games. Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Stanford. Outside of those 4 games, their schedule manageable, but if you think back to last season, they had some struggles to a couple inferior teams....... even a game that went to overtime.... So let's say they go 3-1 in those 4 games, I still think they will lose another game along the way......The Irish will leg an egg in 1 of those other 8 games and it will cost them.....

Reader Questions/Comments Segment is returning this week. Send me your thoughts on Notre Dame or your  Preseason Top 15.....or anything else you want to talk about. We Are Back!

Welcome Back!

After a long layoff, we are back. Signing Day is long gone, and Spring Practices are over. It is that time of the year when we throw out the crazy preseason rankings and wild predictions. This year I am going to extend my preseason rankings from my top 10 to my top 15. Before I dive into the preseason, though..... Let's take a look at some headlines from the last couple of months.

If you remember back the last six or seven offseasons, you will remember that there was always a huge ground-breaking story that rocked the college football world. From last year's HUGE decision for College Football to use a Play Off Format, to the Ohio State Scandal a couple seasons ago. And lets not forget about the Miami mess that came out as well.....Not only did Miami screw up really big, but then the NCAA Investigating crew gets called out for unethical conduct during the investigation..... And of course we will never forget the Penn State situation. So with all the mess that's been going on the last few years, what would be the big headliner this off season? Luckily up to this point, nothing.....or at least nothing as big as the previous seasons.

Here are some stories from the last couple of months:

I guess one headline that is game changing, at least for one team in particular,  Notre Dame's Golson and what that means for the Irish offense.

Maybe a story that has flown under the radar in the College Football World; Auburn's scandal is still foggy but the details will eventually come out. Why is this scandal not receiving more attention? Is it because there isn't any proof, and it's just rumors? Is it because they are in the SEC? Hmmmm.... That last one makes you think a little bit, doesn't it? Whether you are an SEC fan or a hater, I just grabbed your attention. Think about it, though..... If you are the NCAA, you don't want there to be any potential vacating of a BCS Title from the conference that makes the NCAA the most money.... And of course we all have been trying to predict who would knock off the SEC from their streak of BCS Titles, who would have guessed that it wouldn't be a college team......but that it would be a team of NCAA investigators.... Okay, okay..... I'll stop. But keep an eye on this situation.

Florida State has a few things going on as well. Lets go back to the spring game. The QB battle was in full force, but shortly after it looks like the decision was made behind closed doors. While Fisher's claim remains that the position is still open, Clint Tricket (Junior QB, thought by some as the front runner for the job) saw the writing on the wall. He announced his transfer just two days after the spring game. It wasn't that his performance wasn't good. In fact, it was solid...... It may have had something to do with a redshirt freshman (Jameis Winston) who came in and had a spectacular game.

Okay, so now the bad for FSU. This story is pretty recent, it happened Sunday night.... Senior WR Greg Dent has been arrested and is being charged with sexual assault. Dent has been suspended and Fisher has not released a statement at this point. One can only speculate, though. It was this time last year when Senior CB Greg Reid was kicked off the team. Now maybe with Dent's background, he may not have the same fate.... However, if Dent is found guilty, Fisher will have no choice. With Reid, it had been one problem after another.

Moving on from the College Football Headlines..... I have some exciting news. CollegeFootball2Day will be going through some changes starting at the end of July. I will give details as they become available. My Preseason Top 15 countdown will begin in the coming weeks, and the Reader Questions Segment will be returning as well. Send me your top 15, predictions, and questions. Jeremy.cf2d@yahoo.com Check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/collegefootball2day  Also, in the coming weeks, CollegeFootball2Day will be on twitter.... As always, thanks for reading, and soon to be listening. (there's a little hint).
